EIR SCCA will have club loaner helmets available for use by drivers at the 2024 auto-x events.

New year, new helmet rules for driver safety....

The helmet certifications acceptable for use in SCCA auto-x events in 2023 (Note: as of 2/13/2024, the acceptable helmet certification for SCCA auto-x events has not been updated or changed from the 2023 list)  are shown .....here.....

***From the SCCA National Office ***

Starting 1/1/2023, no ECE-rated helmets will be accepted in any SCCA program. It’s likely that this change only matters to a few, but keep reading if you’re interested to learn why these will not be allowed starting in 2023.

Reason for Disqualification

The reason for the disqualification of ECE-rated helmets is that the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) — similar to the U.S. Department of Transportation — does not require their certification labels to include a build date range, which help users and tech inspectors minimize participants using helmets with the natural — but unseen — performance degradation experienced over time. While Snell/FIA/SFI helmets display a manufacture date range on their certification labels and “age out” after no more than 15 years, ECE helmets with the currently accepted label may be more than 20 years old. There’s simply no fool-proof way to ensure the age of these helmets, making the safety of the equipment questionable. For this reason, they will not be allowed for use in any SCCA event beginning in 2023.

After 20 years of providing service to the local racers, Half Fast Racing business is closed.  I can no longer obtain auto-x, track day, and/or road race helmets at a significant discount price, as the distributor I have worked with in the past will no longer source race certified helmets.  Most helmet manufacturers are no longer testing and certifying SNELL M rated open face helmets. You will probably have to step up to the plate and upgrade to SNELL SA2020 helmets for your auto-x needs.  There are a few bargains out there on the internet, especially if you have a size small or XS head. Good luck with your shopping!

I you need a helmet for riding your ATV/UTV, street motorcycle, etc., I have a few remaining new, old stock helmets available at give-away prices.  When they're gone, they're gone.
