EIR election of officers for 2024

The EIR Board of Directors and Officers positions are for a one year term and are elected annually in December, with the newly elected  board members and officers taking office in January.  This is your chance to step up and be part of the EIR management team. As a registered non-profit, all positions are volunteer. As a region of the National SCCA organization, the region officers are required to be SCCA members. You must have a current SCCA membership to vote in the EIR election of officers and board of directors. The EIR operates with two independent groups, the officers and the board of directors. The officer positions consist of the Regional Executive (RE), Assistant RE, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Board of Directors consists of 5 directors and functions as an independent oversight and advisory role of the region officers. Currenntly there are two positions assigned to assist the officers, a webmaster position and a public relations position. Most of the existing 2023 officers have stated their interest in keeping their position for 2024. However, all positions are open for nominations. It's always in the best interests of the region to have a full slate of officers installed and working in January for the upcoming auto-x season. The 2024 season is fast approaching and there is much to do in acquiring event sites and scheduling events.

Here is an update on the elections for our region from Seth, the current RE.

  • USPS Mail:      Reply to this email with your address so we can mail you a paper ballot. You will be responsible for return postage.
  • We will tally the votes during the Dec 20th meeting with results announced the following week (to allow for mail ballots to return). If there are no mail ballots, the results will be tallied and results announced at the meeting.

  • The current open positions that are to be filled:

Update *** Import Domestic Throwdown car show - June 17, 2 - 8 pm

We had such a large interest for helping man the EIR SCCA booth at Import Domestic Throwdown! We had to use a random number generator to pick people because there were so many.

Shane Johnson, Jason Paulson, Matt Dixon, and Steven Bissey were selected by random to help run the booth with John.

Thank you gentleman so much.

Like we said before though, there is NO limit to how many cars can be parked adjacent to the club booth. Member or not (though you should be, seriously, it pays for itself plus more). The IDT entry fee is $35 per car. Below is a link to pay the club that $35 so we can pay IDT all at once and give them a headcount, so that we can park all our cars together adjacent to the EIR SCCA booth. Vendor roll-in starts at 10 AM, and the car cannot leave until the end of the show, but you can leave and come back anytime during the car show! Please keep that in mind.

We have a deadline to pay IDT on or before Monday, May 15th. The cut-off to place your car in the show adjacent to the EIR SCCA booth will be 10AM on May 15th.

If you have any questions, let us know!

Discussion of annual tech process, helmets, classification, sound compliance (SCCA hard stop at 101 db - EIR voted on using 98 db for our events last year), as a "good neighbor" practice at our event sites.

EIR meeting minutes from 6/7/2022

The first auto-x event of the season was a three day event over the Memorial Day weekend.  This event experienced delays in getting drivers registered and competition runs started on schedule.  There was much discussion at the club meeting abouit finding a way to avoid this problem.  The number one reason for delays is drivers showing up late i the morning and wanting to register at the event.  One solution that already helps alleviate this problem is to encourage drivers to preregister on the MotorsportReg.com website.   A second solution will be enacted for upcoming events.  On-site registration will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 am.  Registration from 8:30 to 9 am will be considered "Late Registration" and will have an additional "late fee" of $5 added to the entry fee.  This is to encourage drivers to arrive on site and get registered before 8:30 am, so the event can start on schedule.

Live event timing was discussed and it was decided to move forward with using the AxWare live timing site as soon as we can install and test the software.

2022 Auto-x Cumulative Standings

For many years, EIR SCCA has kept season long cumulative points based on each drivers finishing position in the club auto-x events.  Previously, the results were totaled and announced at the club's year-end awards banquet, where gifts/trophies were awarded to the year long best drivers.  Seth has recently constructed a spreadsheet app which will be used to track points for each driver for PAX standings, raw time standings, and class standings, after every auto-x event.  The results will be posted to the club website so they will be available soon after each weekend event.  A link to the final 2022 season cumulative standings has been moved to the 2022 Results  web page.

EIR meeting minutes from 5/17/2022

The first auto-x event of the season will be a 3 day event over the Memorial Day weekend, at the Rigby Middle School parking lot.  Event work assignments were discussed.  The club's equipment trailer had the floor refinished and it's ready to go for the first auto-x event.  Sound control will be enforced with friendly reminders this year.  IF you car is too loud, please take care of it now, before the first event.  Kameron and Derrick are working on updating the clubs computer to enable live timing results available over the internet.  If all goes well, live timing may be available for this first auto-x event weekend.  The Domestic Import Throwdown car show has been scheduled for July 9 in Pocatello.  This is not an EIR SCCA event, but support was encouraged, as it has quickly become a must see, local car show.

Fontana Pro Solo

Our own local driver, Brian Coulson won the SCCA Pro Solo event in Fontana, CA recently, driving the Cal Craner Corvette.   A total of 126 drivers had times scored during the event. A full field of 32 drivers slid into the Super Challenge bracket, with four in the Ladies Challenge and eight more in the Bonus Challenge bracket.  In the Bonus Challenge, Brian Coulson’s CAM class machine took the top spot from Paul Durr in the always-exciting Corvette vs. Kart Modified matchup.  For the effort, Coulson earned a free entry to a future ProSolo.

The first auto-x event of the season will be a 3 day event over the Memorial Day weekend, at the Rigby Middle School parking lot.  Volunteers were solicited for event chairman, safety stewards, course design and setup, and timing setup.  The club has ordered new loaner helmets as part of a group buy through the SCCA national office, but they will not be delivered until sometime in June or July.  If anyone has some used helmets they would like to donate to the club for use as loaner helmets, it would be greatly appreciated.  The club's equipment trailer has been cleaned and organized.  The trailer floor is being refinished before the first auto-x event.  There was discussion of getting graphics installed on the outside of the equipment trailer so spectators know who we are at events.  As event sites become harder and harder to obtain, with new housing developments being built on every available piece of land,  sound control will become more important and will be enforced with friendly reminders this year.  IF you car is too loud, please take care of it now, before the first event.  There was some discussion of enhancing the clubs timing and scoring system to include live timing results available over the internet.  It will be investigated as to what it would cost and if it could work at our existing event sites.  The clubs Facebook page will be updated soon with event dates and the link for on-line registration.  The Ride-out car club had several members attend the meeting with the intent of being involved in some of our events.  It was great to see a new car club being formed in the area.  Their main focus is to hold responsible show & shine and touring events.

EIR meeting minutes from 10/13/2021

Summing up the seasons auto-x events, 122 different drivers participated in 21 events.  EIR now has 75 members. It was reported that the online pre-registration process has worked well for the events this year.  Kameron is working on the year's points totals and awards.  Results should be available in the mid-November time frame.  A work day is being planned to clean out and re-supply the club's equipment trailer, sometime before winter. The club's year end dinner party and awards presentation is being planned for January 2022, with a location yet to be determined.  It was reported that the Pine Ridge Mall parking lot will no longer be available for club auto-x events.  New sites are being pursued, including the possibility of holding auto-x events at the ISU stadium parking lot,  which has been used several times in the past.  There was some discussion of returning to in-person monthly club meetings.  No decision was made, as the COVID-19 virus situation is still changing weekly.

Auto-x Photos ! - Several people have provided photos from the last couple auto-x events.

EIR meeting minutes from 5/12/2021

The upcoming auto-x event will be a 3 day event at the Rigby Middle School over the Memorial Day weekend, Sat, May29 - Mon, May 31.  As of the the date of this club meeting, the SCCA national office is still requiring masks and social distancing rules for our events.  The club officers emphasized that event on-line registration at MotorSportsReg.com will be open on Friday, May 14th, and that pre-registering certainly helps make the event go much smoother and quicker in the mornings when many tasks have to be accomplished to get equipment setup and functioning.

Their was discussion of the club using one of the auto-x events as a charity fund raiser for a local charity.  The SCCA national office will waive the event sanction fees for one event a year, if we then donate the proceeds to charity.

.

EIR meeting minutes from 4/14/2021

The first auto-x event of the season is less than two weeks away at the Pine Ridge Mall parking lot.  Pre-registration is open on MotorsportReg.com.   Fourteen drivers have already registered for the upcoming auto-x.  We've had snow cover the  ground last week and this week, so maybe it will be done snowing by the end of April !  Several of the local Eastern Idaho drivers got an early auto-x event already done by traveling to the SCCA National Tour event in Las Vegas last weekend, where the weather was hot and sunny.  So they are ready to go for the EIR season opening auto-x.

The event master and helpers will be at the Pine Ridge mall parking lot on Friday evening, 4/23,  at 5 pm, to set up the course and mark it.  Any volunteers willing to help out on Friday evening would be greatly appreciated.

There was some discussion of how tech inspection will be handled at the event, and is was decided that a tech station will be set up so that drivers can bring their car to the tech inspector when ready for inspection.  Due to Covid restrictions, please do not congregate at the tech station.  The tech inspector will examine your vehicle from outside the vehicle.

Seth has repaired the club's backup timer display board, so we now have both timer display boards functional again.

The Carlsons have adjusted the PA system to get it back into good shape again, so run times can again be announced at the upcoming events.

The generator is also being tuned up do we will have remote power is needed.

The equipment trailer has been cleaned and organized, and is ready to go to the event.

The timing computer has been set up with the 2021 season points tracking option for determining year-end awards for each class, including overall PAX standings, and we hope to post the season points to the web site and keep it updated throughout the season, so drivers can see their standing after each event.

EIR meeting minutes from   3/10/2021

The upcoming first auto-x of the 2021 season will be at the Pine Ridge Mall parking lot.  The section of the parking lot we used the last year has been reduced due to the mall selling part of the lot.  However, we now have use of another adjoining section of parking lot to use for trailer parking and unloading, spectator parking, and grid.  So the end result is we still have sufficient size parking lot to hold events on.

A new change for the club is the use of MotorsportsReg.com for event preregistration.  So you will be able to register for events up until  midnight prior to the event.  We will also use the Speeed Waiver option on MotorsportsReg.com.  These options should greatly reduce the time spent registering and signing waivers in the morning at the event site.  If this goes according to plan, we should have the first car on course at 10 am.

The club is offering a free event entry to whoever can tow the equipment trailer to and from the events.   The trailer would need to be towed to the event site early Friday evening to facilitate course setup.  Then towed back to its home from the event site after the event finishes on Sunday, the site has been cleaned up, and the trailer reloaded.

With 10 event weekends planned for 2021 season, the club is looking for members to step up and volunteer to assist with course design, safety stewards, and tech inspection at each event.  Many hands make for short work.

Tom Larkin plans to be the photographer at each event and will have the capability to print on-site and sell race action photos of your car at the event.

  EIR meeting minutes from   2/10/2021

Monthly Meetings:

Even though winter decided it was time to show up fashionably late, we are still headstrong on getting a solid season put together for everyone.  We have had a lot going on the last month, and in case you missed our meeting last Wednesday, I'm going to cover some of it in this post.

First things first.....

Our schedule is done! Check the Schedule of Events web page. Still have some time to finish those projects up,( i know i need the time!) so keep at it and we will see you at the Pine Ridge mall come late April.

Second:

In our meeting we had a new chair position get voted in. Would like to say congrats and looking forward to this, as we join Seth Feuerborn into our Secretary position! Seth has been a great member and helping hand through many of our events. He will be bringing a lot of help to the table in organizing and helping us have even more successful events in the future. So give a good shout out to Seth, and sticker bomb his WRX at the next event!

Our current chair holders now consist of:

Regional Executive: Kameron Clements

Secretary: Seth Feuerborn

Treasurer: Derek Holubar

Webmaster: John Atchison

Third:

We are going to now offer online registration through Motorsportsreg.com. This has been something we have wanted to do and are stoked to be able to offer this. This will cut down the amount of on site registration and give you all more time to get you and your vehicles ready for the event. We will still be offering on site morning registration for now. We are still in the process of getting all our events setup through them, but watch out as they will be posted soon. If you haven't used Motorsportreg before, I suggest going on there and browsing around. Once our events are ready they will be shared through email and blasted on our social media pages as well.

Fourth:

*NOTE THIS* We are going to be raising our entry prices by $5.00 all around. Not a huge jump but the reason for this was, lots are costing more to rent, equipment replacements/maintenance for our events, and offering more to our members in making it easier to enter our events. With that increase that still keeps us cheaper than most SCCA regions throughout the nation!

Our Entry cost would be:

Member: $35-1 day, $45.00-2 day

Non Member: $45-1 day, $55.00-2 day

Novice: $25.00-1 day, $45.00- 2 day

Also another quick note,

We are going to be offering to print out class and numbers on computer paper to all participants that don't have magnets. We will be charging $1.00 for 2 sheets that will consist of your class and # to put on both sides of your vehicle for the event. This will cut down a lot on the use of Blue tape and offer a much cleaner look on your car.

We are excited to be under way and more focused on providing the best events possible for all this summer.

Thank you all, and can't wait for April!!

-Kameron
